First Mobile Device Management Vendor to Offer Antivirus and Firewall Protection for Handhelds as Part of Comprehensive Mobility Suite

DUBLIN, Calif. — Sybase iAnywhere today announced that it has expanded its mobile security portfolio to include handheld antivirus and firewall capabilities. Sybase([R]) Information Anywhere([R]) Suite’s Afaria([R]) management and security solution will be enhanced with antivirus and firewall technology, addressing growing concern over an increase in malware, viruses, hackers and spam targeting handheld devices. These new security components, combined with Afaria’s award-winning mobile device authentication and encryption technology, provide complete protection for Windows Mobile, Symbian and Blackberry mobile devices from viruses, data compromise, hackers and the effects of mobile device loss or theft.

"By now offering handheld antivirus and firewall protection as a part of our managed security portfolio, Sybase iAnywhere is responding to customer demand for broader security capabilities from a single, strategic mobility vendor," said Joe Owen, vice president of engineering, Sybase iAnywhere. "Customers benefit from being able to manage all security policies from a single console, and can be assured of interoperability among the security technologies on their workers’ handheld devices."

"The tremendous growth in adoption of converged mobile devices (a.k.a. smart phones) occurring among business professionals will inevitably bring with it a rise in the number of attacks and in the sophistication of viruses and other malware specifically targeting these devices. IT organizations need to be proactive in protecting their information and systems from attack," said Sean Ryan, Research Analyst, Mobile Enterprise, IDC. "Enterprises should consider mobile antivirus and firewall protection, for all enterprise supported mobile operating systems, as part of a holistic mobility security offering that puts IT in central control of all mobile devices and information."

Sybase iAnywhere extends its lead in the mobile device management and security market with technology built specifically to address the unique battery, processor and screen size of handheld devices, rather than retrofitting desktop solutions.

Key Features Include:

Afaria Antivirus Manager

* Comprehensive antivirus protection with automatic signature file updates, assuring up-to-date protection

* Real-time virus detection on any file received

* Based on heuristic technology - first behavior-based security solution targeting mobile devices. Afaria provides this added protection effectively without sacrificing device performance

Afaria Firewall Manager

* IP based firewall protection - puts IT administrators in control with black list or white list filtering of inbound and outbound communications. This allows a company to "lock down" use of the device for authorized business communications only and/or protect the device from possible infection through typical web-surfing.

* SMS and call filtering - allows administrators to minimize mobile spam by establishing a customized blacklist to block incoming SMS, MMS and/or calls from selected contacts and unknown users. An end user can even actively manage this from his device to block unwanted spam or phone calls.

Availability

The new Afaria antivirus and firewall protection capabilities will be available by the end of June 2008. For more information, please visit: http://www.sybase.com/products/mobileenterprise/afaria or by calling 800-801-2069. An online seminar will be offered on July 15 to describe the product in further detail. Interested parties may register for the seminar by accessing: http://www.sybase.com/iaswebcast_afaria_security.

Fortinet® — the pioneer and leading
provider of unified threat management (UTM) solutions — today announced
that Amadeus Hospitality has implemented Fortinet’s FortiGate®
multi-threat security appliances to help provide broad security at the main
German office and secure connections with its branch offices as well as
more than 150 hotels to date across the world. Amadeus Hospitality is the
hotel IT business unit of Amadeus, a worldwide leading technology partner
for the travel and tourism industry.

Amadeus Hospitality provides the international hotel and catering industry
with applications for profitable hotel management, worldwide distribution
and IT hosting. Due to the multitude of personal data held in the hotels’
IT systems — ranging from guest addresses and staff payrolls to customer
credit card details — it is crucial for Amadeus Hospitality to ensure the
highest level of security internally as well as to its customers. Due to
increasing virus attacks, the IT department at Amadeus Hospitality
proactively started to look to replace its firewall with a more robust
security solution that would offer the performance and features required to
effectively protect against increasingly sophisticated Internet threats. As
most hotels do not have IT staff on-site and rely directly on Amadeus
Hospitality’s IT support, it was also critical to select a solution that
would be easy to install and manage.

After running a comparative test with appliances from Juniper, SonicWall
and Fortinet, Amadeus Hospitality chose to deploy multiple FortiGate
multi-threat security appliances on its internal network, branch offices
and hotels. At their main German office in Vaterstetten, a cluster of
FortiGate-1000 appliances provide all the critical security functions –
firewall, antivirus, anti-spam, Web content filtering and IPS — needed to
protect the core network. Two FortiGate-400 appliances, also clustered for
high-availability purposes, serve as VPN hubs to the hotels and remote
offices. Finally, FortiGate-50 and FortiGate-60 security appliances are
installed at each of those remote sites, to enable VPN connection with
Amadeus Hospitality and provide broad-based security.

“Fortinet provides us with a secure environment in a simplified management
scheme and very low maintenance,” said Marcus Schmid, director of IT
projects and services at Amadeus Hospitality. “The performance of
Fortinet’s firewall is second to none. All the required security functions
are truly integrated, and the ease of configuration of the FortiGate
appliances allowed us to carry out the initial deployment within two weeks
in spite of a relatively large and widespread installed base.”

“Today, implementing new VPN tunnels with hotels is a matter of an hour or
less. Our goal is to replace the existing ISDN connections from several
thousand hotel customers with VPN connections,” adds Schmid.

Amadeus Hospitality is also using FortiAnalyzer(TM), Fortinet’s real-time
network logging, analyzing and reporting tool. This system logs and
analyzes data from all the Fortinet appliances, allowing the IT team to
create tailored reports for internal purposes and to report connectivity
and performance levels back to the hotels.

Amadeus Hospitality also relies on the FortiGuard® subscription services,
which enables them to provide their hotel customers with real-time
automatic security updates no matter where they are in the world. This
allows the hotels to be assured of the highest level of protection around
the clock.

“Our extensive suite of FortiGate appliances is tailored to the security
needs of global businesses, such as Amadeus Hospitality, which have to
ensure robust security throughout their main German office, branch offices
and retail offices,” said Andre Stewart, vice president of Fortinet EMEA.
“All of our appliances are based on the same robust operating system and
provide a consistent high level of security functionality. This greatly
simplifies installation and maintenance for our customers’ IT staff and
allows us to deliver comprehensive, enterprise-class protection down to the
smallest sites in their organizations.”

Secure Computing Corporation (NASDAQ: SCUR), a
leading enterprise gateway security company, today announced that in an
independent test Secure Computing’s Secure Web (formerly Webwasher®)
Anti-Malware engine again ranked first place, achieving a near-perfect
overall score and surpassing all other leading vendors. Secure Computing’s
Secure Web detected 97 percent of the samples with the best response time,
scoring higher than all 27 other solutions tested.

The research, conducted by independent AV Test Labs ( www.av-test.org ) and
published in June 2008, tested and scored vendors on proactive detection
and response time for the samples that made it onto the Wildlist in the
first quarter of this year. This is the seventh consecutive time that
Secure Web has achieved a top position in an AV Test Labs study, which
demonstrates that while threats continue to change and evolve, Secure
Computing has been consistent in its unsurpassed protection methods.

“Proactive detection is a much-discussed topic today, but the reality is
that even for the reduced set of malware that makes it to the Wildlist, the
response time of most antivirus solutions is in the range of hours or even
days,” said Andreas Marx, managing director for AV Test Labs. “AV Test
Labs continuously monitors the threat detection capabilities of leading
vendors in the market, and proactive protection is a must for responsible
enterprises.”

“AV Test Labs in Germany is one of the most credible and discerning testing
houses in the industry, and to again achieve such a near-perfect score
validates our commitment to providing best-of-breed gateway security
solutions,” said Ken Rutsky, vice president of Product Marketing, Secure
Computing. “Today’s evolving and morphing threats require accurate and
real-time protection, and Secure Computing’s Secure Web has once again
proven to be the best for protecting against new emerging threats.”

Secure Computing’s Secure Web is the industry’s first and only
reputation-based Web gateway security solution that protects enterprises
from spyware, phishing, malware, data leakage and Internet misuse, while
ensuring policy enforcement, regulatory compliance and a productive
application environment. Secure Web employs the most sophisticated
behavioral- and signature-based techniques for stopping malware, as well as
patented content analysis software for stopping data leakage. The solution
takes a new and radically different approach to Internet Security,
employing Secure Computing’s global reputation-based system and
methodology, TrustedSource(TM). This assigns a reputation to message
senders and Web URLs, domains and IP addresses in real-time, providing
highly proactive, immediate protection.

Comprehensive Security & Intrusion Prevention Solution for Embedded Device Designers

SAN FRANCISCO — Mocana, a software company that delivers comprehensive embedded security solutions for non-PC devices attached to the network, today announced general availability of NanoDefender, a comprehensive intrusion prevention solution designed specifically for constrained device environments. The introduction of NanoDefender expands Mocana’s Device Security Framework[TM] with a unique approach to intrusion detection and prevention that secures all aspects of a device without hindering quality-of-service.

For the past few years, corporate IT and security staff have been waging an all-out war against the rising tide of malware that threatens to invade and take over business systems by stealing, corrupting and destroying sensitive and critical data. While PCs remain the primary target for hackers, security threats exist in anything that connects to the network - including routers and switches, handheld computing devices like smartphones and PDAs, wired handsets, network gateways, modems, printers. Other "everyday" devices like home appliances, GPS systems, automobiles, HVAC systems, DVRs, power meters and cash registers are coming online every day and facing increasingly sophisticated attacks.

Traditional tools such as firewalls, anti-virus, anti-spam, VPNs, ID and access management systems usually do a poor job addressing the unique security challenges posed by these devices. The security solutions that often work well for PCs - especially popular open source packages like OpenSSH or OpenSSL - either simply won’t fit, or eat up processor cycles, memory and electrical power - three things in short supply for inexpensive "infrastructure" devices like cell phones. Further, prohibitive costs often prevent enterprises and carriers from deploying network-based intrusion detection systems at the perimeter of the network in the first place - and this is where devices connect.

"The impact of security threats on the PC front is widely documented and is being addressed on multiple levels," said Kitty Weldon, Principal Analyst with Current Analysis. "Yet, security for devices has been sorely lacking and lacks a clear strategic defense. With so much reliance on electronics for both business and everyday living, devices like DVRs, smartphones and printers are a giant, flashing target for malware creators."

Mocana NanoDefender effectively "immunizes" devices at the edge of the network, preventing any possible attacks from subverting protected devices and applications on those devices. Mocana’s release of NanoDefender represents a new approach to device security that prevents any known or unknown threats from exploiting weaknesses inherent in device applications. Unlike other security processes, NanoDefender evaluates a device’s application activity against a rules base of acceptable behaviors and functions. If an application’s function or behavior is not deemed acceptable, the application is terminated before the malware can damage or corrupt its host, spread to other hosts and/or cross into the corporate infrastructure. Using a rules base of acceptable behavior ensures a very comprehensive level of device security because it captures any and all deviant activity versus blocking only known threats.

Further, Mocana’s NanoDefender software is designed to be embedded into a device’s operating system or application, so it does not depend on the device logging onto the corporate network to get the latest security patches. This helps enterprise IT departments remain focused on core business initiatives by eliminating the need for expensive and time-consuming updates to thousands of remote devices.

"While existing intrusion prevention systems are often used to monitor and protect enterprise systems, they were not appropriate or effective for devices. Device manufacturers needed a better way to keep their products secure and operational," said Adrian Turner, CEO for Mocana. "NanoDefender is a new approach offering these device manufacturers and their customers the highest level of ongoing device security with minimal impact at runtime."

Pricing and Availability

Mocana NanoDefender is designed for the needs of device designers, engineers and new product developers, and is now shipping. Developers can register for a free source code evaluation of NanoDefender at www.mocana.com/evaluate.html. For pricing and purchase information, please email sales@mocana.com or call 866-213-1273.

Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC) today announced
the release of the new Symantec
Endpoint Management Suite to define the next generation of integrated,
best-of-breed systems management, endpoint security and backup and
recovery. This first release of Endpoint Management Suite immediately
delivers market-leading endpoint control and is built on the Symantec Open
Collaborative Architecture to help protect a customer’s investment by
providing the ability to rapidly address future endpoint requirements.

IT organizations strive for confidence in their operating environment and
understand that a truly secure endpoint is a well-managed endpoint . According to industry
analysts, more than 90 percent of all system vulnerabilities can be
eliminated through proper system configuration and patch management. The
remaining vulnerabilities require multi-faceted protection against zero-day
and new-breed security threats. In addition, a strong backup and recovery
system is necessary to protect organizations against data loss, system
failure, user error or disaster.

Symantec Endpoint Management Suite secures the endpoint by providing the
leading technology in all three areas of system configuration: management,
security and recovery. The suite includes Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0, Altiris Client Management Suite 6 and Backup
Exec System Recovery 8 Desktop Edition. In addition, the suite
leverages the Symantec Open Collaborative Architecture based on the Altiris
service-oriented architecture and configuration management database
(CMDB) to further drive the convergence of security and systems
management.

The Symantec Open Collaborative Architecture is creating greater
interoperability between Symantec solutions and provides partners and
customers with the ability to integrate their applications with the
Symantec platform. The Web services-based architecture provides data
sharing and IT automation to streamline process execution and reduce the
cost and risk of IT ownership.

Going forward, Symantec expects to utilize this Open Collaborative
Architecture to quickly adapt to customers’ most pressing requirements for
business alignment, cost reduction, improved IT service, an enhanced
end-user experience, and proactive security. Symantec solutions for data loss prevention , endpoint virtualization , network access control , endpoint encryption and automated IT process management are
scheduled to be further integrated in the next version of this suite to
help Symantec customers remain firmly in control of their endpoint
computing environment.

“Symantec delivers the most comprehensive endpoint management solution
combining market-leading technology and a service-oriented architecture,”
said Brad Kingsbury, senior vice president, Endpoint Security and
Management, Symantec. “This initial release of Endpoint Management Suite
includes best-of-breed management, security and recovery technology and is
another important milestone in the delivery of our unified strategy for the
endpoint. With leading endpoint virtualization, data loss prevention, data
and system protection, IT process automation and network access control
technologies, Symantec is uniquely positioned to help our customers be
confident in the security and availability of the endpoint.”

Symantec understands it takes multiple solutions to fully protect endpoint
systems and data from cradle to grave. An integrated approach that combines
management, security and recovery provides organizations with visibility
into and control of an entire endpoint environment and can help eliminate
exposure to security and compliance risks. Symantec Endpoint Management
Suite will help create confidence in a stable and efficient endpoint
operating environment.

Endpoint Management Suite delivers:

-- Manage - Automate and streamline endpoint lifecycle management tasks
including hardware and software inventory, application metering, software
delivery, patch management, OS deployment and migration, and remote
management. These capabilities help business save costs through automation
    of repeatable IT processes.
-- Secure - Protect against the next generation of sophisticated security
threats and attacks to promote confidence in a stable and secure endpoint
computing environment. Integration with software management provides more
rapid identification and remediation of security threats.
-- Recover - Recovery of critical files in seconds and complete systems
in minutes, not hours or days, to provide an extra layer of protection
    against unforeseen threats and disasters.

Customer and Partner Success

Aspirus, a non-profit, community-directed health system based in Wausau,
Wis., selected Symantec endpoint management and security solutions to help
automate the management and security of endpoints and data used by 4,500
employees across two states.

Jesse Kozikowski, Aspirus server analyst, said, “We are tasked with
managing the health system’s IT and patient care networks to ensure
endpoint availability and sensitive data protection. Symantec understands
our challenges and Endpoint Management Suite directly addresses the unique
requirements of our environment. Considering the demands of end users and
the changing threat landscape, we needed more than just a couple of
disconnected point products for software delivery or antivirus. We were
able to replace several competitive point products with a single,
integrated endpoint management solution from Symantec.”
