A stomach virus outbreak in a small Canterbury town is likely to
be due to contaminated water, possibly from agricultural activity,
health officials say.
The Selwyn District Council alerted Springston residents on
Friday that water from the well which supplies their water was
contaminated with E coli bacteria and advised them to boil water
before drinking it.
Canterbury District Health Board (CDHB) Medical Officer of Health
Dr Alistair Humphrey said four cases of campylobacter had been
reported in Springston in the past month.
That number of cases constituted an outbreak, he said.
