BitDefender detects 99.51% of malware in new independent testing by leading security authority

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — BitDefender([R]), a global provider of award-winning antivirus software and data security solutions, announced today that its antivirus engine detected 99.51% of the malware in independent tests conducted by AV-Test.org of Germany. In doing so, BitDefender led all other single-engine competitors in finding the most malware, once again demonstrating the powerful capabilities of its patent-pending B-HAVE([R]) advanced detection techniques.

Performed earlier this month, the test measured the capabilities of 29 competing single- and multi-engine antivirus solutions on their ability to detect nearly a million different pieces of malware using the most up-to-date signatures. Only validated samples of malware found in the wild and collected by AV-Test in the past six months were used in the testing process.

"We are very pleased with the results of this test and will strive to continue leading the pack among top antivirus vendors," commented Bogdan Dumitru, BitDefender’s chief technology officer. "AV-Test’s results demonstrate BitDefender’s ongoing commitment to providing home and SMB users with solutions that offer the absolute highest levels of malware protection. The timing of these results is ideal, as it shows the level of protection now available in BitDefender 2008, our newest line of security solutions."

For further details on the results of this test, please visit AV-Test.org (http://www.av-test.org). Details on the company’s testing techniques can also be obtained here.
